How valuable is valuations experience?
It says "Intern in M&A" but really I'm an intern at a boutique valuations firm and I will probably work here full time after graduating unless I get an offer from Big 4 or a bigger val firm, although the boutique pays very well. I just wanted to get a sense what kind of opportunities in corp fin/dev one can expect after around 1 or 2 years of val experience?
Bump
M&A experience more valuable than valuations experience, but still relevant. However, at a boutique valuations firm you might have to lateral first depending on where you're trying to go. Issue w/ valuations if you're trying to go corp dev is you're not running a process at all ever, and that's highly valuable in corp dev.
What about regular corp fin or strategic finance/FP&A?
If I had 2 equalish candidates I'd pretty much always defer to hiring the one w/ prior IB experience. Doable though for sure, just more of an uphill battle. If you were Big 4 valuations I would've said don't sweat it really, but from some rando boutique (assuming you're not talking about like D&P), the lack of name recognition will definitely hurt you.
