Would taking a job as a FP&A systems manager give me a good opportunity to move into a higher traditional FP&A/Corp Finance role?

I have a background in accounting and finance and have been working in the same industry doing that for about 8 years. I am currently interviewing for an FP&A systems manager role. It's with a good company. A leader within my industry, and they are in the S&P 500. They have a very decentralized FP&A function, and they want to partially centralize it. Primarily, they want to start using an ERP system to manage their FP&A and need someone with experience in systems implementation to help find the right solution and build and roll out the new FP&A system across the company. Because they need to integrate accounting data in their models, my experience in accounting and implementing smaller systems in the past would be helpful to them as well.

However, I am worried that the role may leave me pigeonedholed as the systems admin for FP&A (more of an IT function). The position does report to the VP of IT. The hiring manager has said that he is NOT looking to hire an IT person because they need someone, who can understand FP&A's needs better. Ultimately, I still want to stay within the greater accounting/finance sphere and move up in my career.

My question: Would accepting this role, still allow me to move into higher and more traditional FP&A roles (even if I decided to move to another firm in the future)? I want to make sure that the experience of implementating the FP&A system from this job would be valued for future opportunities.
