If I Was Going to Buy a Rolex

Hi all,

If I was going to buy a Rolex, which one should I buy to retain value?

I want to buy one of the more subtle models, like the datejust or perpetual and keep it under $7,500. Would love tips and recommendations on which series might be a good buy and where to get it from (which websites you find the most reliable) or if I should buy from Rolex themselves.

thank you!

Most Rolex models will hold their value, so focus on getting what you want. A datejust is great and will be in the price range that you threw out there. Submariners are pretty common but there is always a market for them and you can find one in that range. The coveted models like a GMT (Batman or Pepsi) or Daytona are the ones that hold value the best and often increase but they are going to cost a lot more initially.

I suggest going to a Rolex boutique and trying on some watches, seeing what looks good on your wrist. Buy a watch to enjoy wearing it and have a nice timepiece; if those aren't your reasons, I recommend putting that money into something else.

follow up question: what color watch face do you prefer? if I get black for example is that weird to wear with let’s say a blue sweater? not sure if I’m overthinking it

personally I was thinking of getting a white face with Roman numerals (seemed a bit classier to me, and I like the classics)
