Rollie

Hey all. What are your favorite Rolex watches? Looking to get a new one and was thinking of getting an Airking. I like that’s its pretty unique and not as popular as the Datejust which is the other one I am looking at. I don’t like the sub or gmt, not a fan of how big and in your face it is personally. Great watches but just not my style

Did I flex right? ;)

For those of you following along at home, that's a 116503

I usually hate gold on watches but goddamn that looks great with the white face. Good spec and catch mate. I'm an omega man myself so perhaps have no business on this thread but the OP and DJ make me always look back (went with a seamaster aqua terra with a graphite face)

You know, I wasn't a fan of gold either. But I read a great saying, "stainless steel is for my cutlery, gold is for my watch". So, I wanted to straddle both worlds and went with the two-tone. And yes, they also make this watch with a black dial and you'll see that pretty frequently too, but I love the white dial on this, just gives it an extra "pop". I just got this one not too long ago, I'm really happy with the purchase.

Hey m_1 I know you're a huge Lange guy so I just wanted to run this by you if you don't mind. I'm currently debating between these two:

  1. BNIB with AD Warranty Saxonia Thin 37mm for $12,250
  2. "97% Like New" 2001 1815 Up/Down 36mm for $13,000

I like the clean dial of the first one, plus it's BNIB - however it's lacking small seconds (which sometimes I think is a plus, sometimes a minus). The 1815 on the other hand I love as well - it's just the condition, age, and lack of warranty that's holding me back.

Tough choice. To me lack of warranty isn't a huge deal. I never had issues with my first Lange 1 that was quite old when I bought it - roughly same age as that 1815. I like the small seconds a lot too.

The other question I guess is how sure you are that you'll keep what you buy. If you're like me and a bit of a compulsive flipper then maybe stay away from both as they'd be tough to resell as those prices. You wouldn't take a bath by any means but just FWIW.

The finishing on either of those will destroy anything else in that price range BTW including entry-level Patek. Lange finishes everything to the same standard on all of their pieces. My Zeitwerk has the same level of finishing as my Lange 1 did (!!!). Amazing bang for buck!  :)

Well, yeah, the flash like 99% of the purchase - duh!

Besides, do you really want to be the guy that uses words like "horology"? Never be that guy!

You seem to be into watches so you of all people should know that people looking in this price range aren't exactly looking to be on time for, well, anything. You're buying a Daytona because you want a nice piece of jewelry to wear and enjoy and smile when you look at it to remember your achievements, "horology" be damned! I don't even set the time on my Daytona when I wear it half the time :-) Do you think I bought it to remind me to clock in on time for my third-shift at the widget factory?

In the words of the modern philosopher, Jay-Z, "Ball so hard, got a broke clock, Rollies that don’t tick-tock, Audemars that’s losing time, hidden behind all these big rocks"

Easy for you to talk sh*** sitting on your knock-off, leather couch while clad in your sweat stained and too tight, overpriced t-shirt. Stay in your lane bro.

Did not see anyone talking about it in the thread but I really like Day-Date everose gold with a sort of green dial and Roman numerals. My friends have always told me that Day-Dates are too flashy but I would like to get one regardless. If you like leather bands then I would say Cellini is an excellent one. I don’t like any of the modern sporty watches I like the classy ones more. For more casual occasions I think a apple smart watch is really cool and kind of handy.
