Watch Recommendation

I'm currently in college and am thinking about getting a nice first watch. I wanted to know what people in the finance industry would think about the Zenith CHRONOMASTER REVIVAL A386 MANUFACTURE EDITION.

Probably won't be the sort of thing I wear in the office, (more just for nice dinners, dates, private clubs) but could I wear it after graduating in an investment bank bull-pin?

cost is not a large concern, any other watches people would recommend? watch

Wait, you're in college still and can afford a $9k watch??? Nice

As a genuine response, I don't think most will care but I'd still be careful wearing this your first year if your group has watch enthusiasts.

This questions gets asked a few times a year. No one will care as long as it is professional looking (not full of diamonds, not a 48mm hublot, not the globe Conor McGregor wore to his most recent fight) and you aren’t hitting an MD over the face with it and asking them how much they think it costs.

I don’t know why you say you would only wear it for nice events, that isn’t a very formal watch and would be totally fine (from a size and looks perspective) to wear everyday. It actually isn’t really a “dress” watch.

Finally, as for brands, zenith is a very well respected watch brand, although not well known outside of watch fans. I would recommend buying second hand if possible as they normally take a hit in the secondary market. If going for a similar look the omega speedmaster is a great option (and saves you a few thousand $), the IWC portofino or Portugieser  (a bit dressier), or even a pre owned JLC master control

If you love that watch and aren't stretching yourself to get it, then sure pull the trigger as I am a huge watch aficionado and believe in owning a piece you love. That one is pretty subtle and won't come across as flashy. However, if you're just pulling the trigger because you want a watch rather than holding out for something you really want, then wait it out and get that dream piece. You certainly don't need a watch as a part of work attire so even if your dream watch is a shiny fluted bezel datejust from rolex, then get that but don't wear it to work.

I love watches as well. All the power to you if you can afford it! Its a great piece.

My only advice would be to try and get it used, like new. You benefit from the initial depreciation that these watches take. Similar to owning a car. I know you probably see it as a lifetime piece but in my experience you will want to trade up/down and experience different brands without necessarily breaking the bank so having the most value for your money is a worthy pursuit imo.

Good luck and nice piece.
