DE Shaw Fundamental Research - Which Team to Join?

Hi everyone,

As the title might suggest, I'm curious about the reputation and culture of each DE Shaw Fundamental Research team. The teams are split into Long/Short, Credit, Special Situations (Merger Arb), and Asset Backed Securities (ABS). I've recently been made an offer to join them for their summer internship with hopes of converting this into a full time role.

I was wondering if anyone has any insights on the performance/culture in each of these divisions. Currently I'm considering all aside from ABS. I've heard their distressed group is great, but not really sure about the others. I was also wondering what exit opps each group would afford. While I understand DE Shaw is an amazing place to work, I'm also cognizant of the fact that joining a group like L/S equity would pigeonhole me in that space, whereas joining the credit team or special situations team might give me slightly more optionality in the future if I decide to move elsewhere.

Any insights or advice would be very much appreciated!
