How is the current London job market for LO/buy-side roles?

Hey guys,

So the title probably says it all. How is the current job market in London for buy-side equity analysts? Is it absolutely dead and I'm an idiot to move over?

I'm an analyst/senior analyst with 4 years experience at a long-only fund and looking at making the move soon and starting to get my visa sorted etc and will look to move in the next 3/4 months.

Any insight into the job market at the would be hugely appreciated. Has hiring slowed right down? Will it pick up soon once people get their bonus and look to move?

Thanks.

Only the multi-managers are active. Others are pretty sporadic (AKO and Guardcap were hiring months ago). Some low-tier asset managers eventually hire too but very few. Also, when LOs open positions in London they are mostly for senior analysts (7+ YOE). Visa issues too. It's a tough move.

Thanks for the response.

I'm eligible for the ancestry visa so I don't think a visa should be issue.

How much tougher is the move now as opposed to a year ago etc? Or has not much changed.

H1 last year was pretty active. 2H2022 to now pretty much dead. Recommend talking to the recruiters (OCR Alpha, Berkerley Croft, Dartmouth, Leverton).
