If this is straight out of undergrad, I wouldn't say that's out of line with the market.
What would you say is industry comp for an analyst with 2 years total experience after undergrad is? Salary and bonus? Expecting £100k base and similar bonus minimum. Thoughts?
Depends massively on the fund but that would probably be high for base with 2 years of experience (and base does not really matter in the grand scheme of things in this industry).
Large SM with $8bn+ AUM. Thought this base would be on lower end given current bank and PE bases.
There will be lots of v experienced HF analysts in London on that same salary (last time I poked my head above the parapet it was around that mark). The base is irrelevant and unlikely to change that much with experience, whereas total comp will grow a lot.
100k base is definitely being given to grads at an MM HF in London
Weird. How many years exp do you have?
A lot of my friends are making between £100-150k bases with 2years experience. I thought this was standard for good funds?
To emphasise again - base is irrelevant in this industry. At the 5-10 years of experience level, I have had offers where base was 20% of the first year guarantee package, and some where it was 50% of the first year guarantee. For the same total guarantee.
The fund is going to be thinking in terms of total comp, and any half decent recruiter should be steering you on this, not on salary.
Year 1 guarantee is a much more useful number than salary when trying to think about comp potential over the next few years.
From what you described its either Millennium or Balyasny, which if its Balyasny you might have the potential to negotiate for a higher base but would recommend not since you don't have much leverage to use here if you're just starting from undergrad. Also most investment banks are currently paying between 50-60 pounds so would say its market.
It is out of undergrad, thanks for your feedback :)
50k base??? What MM is this, I've got a grad offer and mine is closer to £100k.
.
This is bad. Took an offer at an MM out of ugrad in the states for L/S and TC should be above 200k
