Am I Screwed? or Just Thinking Too Hard?

Hello,

I feel like I have a bit of a situation here and wanted to hear other people's opinion on this matter. I am kind of freaking out right now..

So my school just had an info session with a BB bank recently for SA.

Some senior VPs showed up, with couple associates and analysts from different groups. And most importantly, a person who's in charge of IBD of the firm's NY office - I forget what his position is called (not MD)

I was lucky enough to run into him before the session, but was little nervous so definitely botched the whole convo, and asked for his business card, but he told me to just contact one of the VPs (I mentioned that I was keeping in touch with one of the VPs).

Here is when it gets interesting:

  • the guy mentioned my name during info session in a non-negative way and pointed me out ( i.e. "oh I was talking to John over here earlier and we talked about.... what's your last name again John?")

  • I asked him again for his card after the session but he still won't give it to me...

  • I saw him handing them out to other students including some of my friends

  • VPs and the others seem to have a positive impression on me because their boss mentioned my name / and I actually had a great convo w/ them. Didn't mess up at all.

  • Either way, I think I was one of the memorable students for sure.

NOW, Am I screwed? I think the guy in charge of NY IBD thinks I don't have what it takes.. but he didn't see my resume or anything. It was just that convo I botched because I randomly ran into him unprepared.

Even if the VPs like me, if their boss thinks I'm retarded I don't think they would even give me an interview..

What's your take on this matter?

You're born, you take shit. You get out in the world, you take more shit. You climb a little higher, you take less shit. Till one day you're up in the rarefied atmosphere and you've forgotten what shit even looks like. Welcome to the layer cake, son.

Lol, no it doesn't matter. Look, just because you were a "memorable student" does not mean much in and of itself. First of all, how do you know you were so "memorable"? Second, you spoke with the Head of Investment Banking of a BB for the Americas, so he probably already forgot about you.

Even more important than trying to be a memorable student at an info session is getting top-grades, strong internship experience, leadership experience, great extracurriculars, and then rocking the multiple rounds of interviews. And even then, you aren't guaranteed anything.

So quit worrying about such trivial things, and work hard at getting yourself to the next level.

He was doing you a favor. A nebbishy little dude like you was not ready to gaze directly into his business card. Why do you think Yahweh wouldn't let Moses gaze directly at his face? Don't you remember how poor Timothy Price went mad after looking at Paul Owen's card?

That man may have saved your soul.

always move forward never sleep like a shark, bro
