Any firms known to have better hours/WLB?
Everyone knows IB has terribly long hours. Its part of the job and you know what you are signing up for. I have heard EBs have the worst hours where 100-hour weeks are common along with some BB. Is middle market known for having better hours or is it all firm/group dependent?
Are there any firms known for 50-65 hours weeks or better compared to the normal 70-80?
You’re not going to get 50-65 hours/week in IB. If this is what you’re after, I highly recommend you look into Equity Research — read my previous comment, it has many amazing qualities, WLB among them.
I’m at a “chill” MM, and the IBs in my summer analyst class are pulling all-nighters.
I agree, I've just done my freshman year and I'm a SA at a 'chill' MM- really team dependent but other interns regularly doing 0900-2300. Half this stuff could be done WFH, very team dependent on how they view facetime in the office
Interns pulling all nighters is wildly exaggerated. I work at one of the sweatiest groups in the street and as an intern I was protected and working maybe till ~1am. As an analyst it is a whole different story but no one is making interns pull all nighters.
