BBVA IB Information

Hi everyone,

First, thanks for being such a great resource.

Some context: Recent graduate from an ultra non-target in a tertiary southern city at the top of my class. I've got a solid resume of deal experience that I deliberately set myself up to get because I've wanted this for awhile. Also developed a pretty powerful network in my home city that I'm leveraging into NY with. No luck with any formal recruiting. Didn't network well enough for the formal process due to time constraints I had. I'm in NY now pounding pavement and hammering ib's everyway possible to get an analyst spot somewhere.

What does everyone know about BBVA's investment banking practice? Looks like the best IB in Spain and maybe Mexico? What's the brand going to look like in the future? Specifically, what does everyone know about their 1 year CIB rotational program? Looks like I'll be able to touch all the facets of IB, but I probably won't develop a super deep skill-set. Everything about the program and BBVA's IB practice looks atypical. I can't find much out there on the company's IB practice and almost nothing on the program itself. Can anyone chime in? You can see the job description by searching "CIB Rotational Analyst." (I can't post links)

Best IB in Spain? Wouldn't hit Top 20 if we are being honest.

Truth is that BBVA is a bank that is commercial first, and as such sees CIB as a side activity more than an integral part of the business. Awful salaries, awful dealflow and full of hardos who convince themselves it is any good.

If you have literally nothing else, then its not like you get a choice. But go in thinking how to desperately leave.
