Comp at Goldman Sachs - Continental Europe

Just got a call with HR discussing comp after they announced to me that I got the offer for the 2024 Analyst class for a satellite office in Continental Europe.

Really excited, but I was expecting more in terms of comp, as was told that it would consist of 50k€ base "not mentioning prestige". When I asked if it was street, the HR representative, clearly annoyed, replied to me that it was because of "prestige".

I am not sure to understand, can someone clarify?

There is a concept which I've seen discussed on this board known as the 'GS discount', the idea behind it essentially being that GS can often get away with paying a little less owing to their prestigious brand name, which you can use for exit opps further down the line. This isn't a comment on the veracity of that idea, just an explanation.
