CVP diversity obsession bordering on flat out racism

I'm non-diverse and interning at a different EB next summer. I only mention that because I had two EB offers in hand this spring, and by the time I was in a position to ask CVP to be accelerated (it was my top choice bank), I had done some moderate networking with the 1 or 2 analysts who responded to my cold emails following on campus info session. However they declined to accelerate me so I chose one of my other two offers, no big deal.

But in talking to others at my target school, it sounds like the pattern this year and consistently over the past few years has been for CVP to accelerate diverse candidates with minimal networking and relatively weaker offers (lower tier BBs and some MMs, names like Citi and Jefferies. And then when September rolls around, they fill the one or two spots left with... more diverse applicants. In every case of others who have been in my shoes (multiple strong offers in hand, non-diverse), all of them said they were turned down by the firm when they asked to be accelerated. At my school, the 2022 SA class did not include a single non-diverse intern.

I mean at a certain point, am I the crazy person, or is this a pattern of blatant discrimination against white and Asian guys that everyone is just cool with? If anyone has had experiences that disprove what I'm saying, seriously call me out because otherwise this points to an absolute racist shitshow.

It’s not just their SA recruiting, but they also obsess over diversity for their FT recruiting. When does it fucking end…

It literally doesn't bro. Imagine grinding your career for the MD promote just for the firm to say "Sorry, but we are promoting Becky instead as we need to hit our gender targets for senior leadership"

Look, I can count the total number of black, Hispanic and female MDs I’ve ever worked with on one hand. Every one of them was fantastic.

Did they benefit from some diversity program? Probably. Did it also hold them back at several key points along the way? Of course it did.

I’m just glad I got to work with them. I can’t say the same of every regular-way MD I’ve encountered.

I'd be interested to hear from those who MS'd this. Not out of spite just genuinely curious what you think is inaccurate about this

I don’t know exactly how the new class statistics are shaking out, but if I go to their “Our Team” partners list on their website, I see ~67 names and ~5 women. Not going to do a racial analysis, but would be surprised if it was much better in terms of representation. I don’t think diversity candidates should be getting easier interviews, but I absolutely support other initiatives to bring more diverse candidates into banking

Diverse people who deep down obviously know it's wrong and aren't able to argue against the post, but it goes against their worldview so they still monkey shit it

Does anyone know what they consider as diversity? CVP is my top choice as well. I'm not ethnically diverse (straight white male) but I did grow up in a low income neighborhood and had blood cancer as a child. Does the blood cancer count as a disability diverse candidate and how do I tell them early so they know, without being awkward

they don't care about it . they just want people who "Look" diverse. it's all about the leftist woke agenda. they don't give a damn about actual diversity of perspectives.

Diversity programs were still a thing from 2017-2019 when Republicans controlled the Presidency, House and Senate and the Supreme Court had a 5-4 majority.

Had a nearly identical experience this past cycle with Centerview. Recruiting there is a complete joke - they end up taking students who were rejected by the firms they would not accelerate for.

Here are some questions for you fellas:

  1. Is CVP a top IB, or isn't it?
  2. If it's a top IB, how long has it been one for?
  3. If it has been a top IB for several years running, and has also "consistently" been pushing diversity hiring the whole time, doesn't that imply these supposed less-qualified diversity candidates have been producing work that's just fine?

Kids still got an offer at CVP tho. Like how you gonna hate from outside the club when you can’t even get in LMAOOO.

I mean the point here is not that this attitude is bad for CVP's bottom line, just that it's obviously racist and morally wrong

You guys seem butthurt you didn't have a chance to win a seat at CVP. It seems clear after all these threads made this summer that people on wso reek of insecurity and jealousy more than anything else.

The key words: “didn’t have a chance”. Non-diverse candidates can’t even get accelerated superdays with competing top EB offers, while diverse candidates can. All we are asking for is a chance, not a handout.

This shit drives intelligent people to far-right politics.

Majority of right wing people these days weren't attracted by right wing policies, they were driven there by the left

yep, living proof of that. i was super involved in young dems in HS and now after seeing all this stuff firsthand i’m pretty far right (which says a lot considering that i’m from one of the most republican towns in this country, and i’m a minority…just not one of the ones that the left cares about)

Controversial

Cry me a river. I am a person of color and I know you never felt that you are underrepresented when you walk into a room. Believe it or not, the industry is not as diversified as you think. I interned at a Top BB last summer and was only 5 black people out of 50 on the floor. No joke. I am now at a LO shop and there are 3 black ppl on a 120 ppl team. All white, Asian. I don’t see it as a problem, love my team but I still feel underrepresented. Most EB and top BB who are pushing the diversity program only go after Ivy kids so they are all smart. They are not just hiring stupid ppl for diversity cases. You were not smart enough. Get smarter and network and you will find it easier. For context, I went to a shitty liberal college. Sent over 100 emails and no response, finally got in contact with an alumni and was able to land an interview, studied my butt off, and got a FIG offer. Didn’t like it and went to LO shop that is a lot quant focused as well. I leveraged my Python, R, and tableau skillset. Stop complaining and just get smarter or go into commercial or retail banking

Why yes, we’re obviously not smart enough when we attend a top target school, got an offer from a competing EB, and then failed to get accelerated at our top choice bank, to be now working at said competing EB. Stop parroting the fucking “get smarter” agenda, it’s so naive.

Great story. Now imagine if you did all that work just to lose your spot to some candidate who put in less work, goes to a shittier LAC, and who received significantly easier interview questions because your LO shop needs more representation from that race than yours. Is that fair? Would you admit you just weren’t smart enough?

You were only 5/50 black people on the floor (10%) when black people are (13%) of the population! You are so underrepresented! You guys really need a leg up, so unfair!

Ah yes the Ivies who definitely select based on how smart you are and don't give insanely enormous advantages based on diversity!

All I'm hearing is a lot of you pussies suck so bad you're losing out on offers to chicks and people who speak English as a 3rd language.

Hot Take: It's because you suck, duh. No one good has a hard time getting a solid IB offer. It just isn't difficult, like, at all.

Brother you're an ASSOCIATE 3. You recruited ages ago before diversity hiring was even a big deal. It got massively ramped up after george Floyd protests to the point where it is insanely obvious now. Back in your day it probably wasn't noticeable
