Final Interview with the MD - Investment Banking

Hi Everyone

Can somebody please elaborate on their final round interview experience with the MD in the BB/EB?

What kind of questions are asked? What do they look for ?

Some insights would be really helpful!

Thank you very much in advance.

I've had interviews with MDs / group heads / regional heads and in my experience they are very focused on market questions and behavioural questions rather than technical questions.

Had a very bizarre one with a well known MM bank awhile back (won't say which group).

Was way more technical than any other interview I had. Probably the reason I struck out. Granted, this bank is fairly notorious for their heavily technical interviews (all my other final round interviews were oddly behavioral until the MD just started drilling me after he realized I didn't have a finance background pre-MBA).

Every single final round I have had with an MD or group head has been completely relaxed and was more of him making sure I wasn’t some anti social loser who couldn’t t make eye contact or something.

Half the time they answered emails and asked me to call walk through my resume and upbringing.

Have never heard of a senior MD asking a anything remotely technical.

Conversational style interview. Questions were meant to see how you problem solve, how you understand the market and clients perspectives on current events. Nothing technical. Also to see if you are a personality fit.
