Fired after PIP, will I get a severance or unemployment? How screwed am I

Due to reasons out of my control, I was put on a PIP. I can get into it but I am very accountable and I think they just over hired and were looking for a reason to fire me, I have been called a slur by one of my seniors on zoom but didn’t want to fight that as I have no proof.
I have been looking for a new role while on the PIP and haven’t gotten any which is why I stayed at the bank and didn’t resign.
I am probably going to be homeless because I don’t have family in the states which i have accepted, I was thinking about KMS but I have my parents and especially my sisters to think about and their pain will be too much to handle so I am 100% not doing that.
I was just wondering if there are any severance packages for laid off Analyst
2s. Will I get a portion of my bonus? Or any severance like 2 weeks of pay? Can I negotiate with HR to include this?

What has been your experiences.

Edit: I was really going to end it all but I got this video recommended on YT by the algorithm and it literally snapped me out of it. It is pretty brutal but it literally saved my life because I could imagine my sister making that call. Very NSFW

I’m in New York but thank you for the offer. I’ll be posting periodically updates of what’s going on

Most of the time they will include severance (usually 6-8 weeks) in exchange for you signing something agreeing not to sue them, disclose information, etc. Definitely no bonus.

I would also talk to HR and see if they will work out some agreement to exit package... at my bank they will offer you severance during the PIP if you agree to resign, but if you stay on the entirety of the PIP you just get cut. I would also be a little more introspective... PIPs require documented performance issues so there is likely something you can do better at your next job.

Also if you need to work retail for a few weeks to make ends meet while you recruit, don't get too down about it.

Totally understand and I don’t mind working retail at all it’s part of the plan actually while I live off my savings.

Thanks for the info that’s what I was looking for, I also have 2 weeks unpaid vacation left will that also be paid out? Or will I forfeit it

They usually pay out PTO that you have accrued during the year. Will prob just lump it together with your final paycheck. It sucks but keep pushing forward

This is OP, and one piece of advice I can give you is this. You have already been fired. I got a lot of DMs telling me this when I initially posted this and thought I could fight my way out, despite stellar work, I was still given the boot.

I have now come to find out that when you’re put on a PIP your manager has to fight twice as hard to get you off and it fucks up their career. No one who puts you on a PIP in the first place cares that much about you to sacrifice themselves.

I didn’t really “land on my feet” per se. I now work in FP&A earning 80k with no bonus and this took me months to get.

I think a fired AN 1 looks like a red flag, and you’re also international so you should start looking aggressively.

Also I was given no severance since it was a “performance reason”

if someone called you a slur and you are on a pip ABSOLUTELY bring it up and crush them.

The person who did was a minority, apparently a lot of minority races hate other minority races. I’ll get insulted but I genuinely thought racism in this industry was not that big of a deal at all junior level. I thought i’ll encounter this when I started in client facing roles and where your whole job is basically office politics.

This experience got me to do some research and it turns out this particular race see themselves as flag bearers for neo nazis despite not even being white themselves, I’m not the only one who’s had this experience but I was ignorant to this ideology before.

I hate this because I think it muddied how I viewed “smart people in finance”, I am bitter about this

In depth update?

I am now in significant credit card debt but avoided homelessness and can’t afford my student loan repayments.

I got a new job in FP&A earning 80k with zero bonus. I wasn’t at a BB so my exit ops were terrible.

I can’t really afford to date anymore and might have to get a roommate going forward.

I’ve been badly beaten but I am not dead. Funny enough I am not mad at the bank, I am mad at the racist incident that happened (it did not involve white people)

I’ve come to learn that a lot of minorities hate other minorities and I’m surprised I went through this because some DEI candidate felt like they were white supremacists.

Out of everything that’s the most shocking to me, these guys really derailed my life because I wasn’t one of them, I’ve met white people who were racists in this industry but they never went that far

I am not in IB yet so can’t speak to that portion.

I can speak to being beat up and on your last man. I found myself in a similar space in the military and personally the best thing I did was just keep swimming. At the end of the day we never fail, we just don’t give ourselves enough time to win and you will win I promise. Idk what place your out of but if it’s Chicago you can def stay with me while you get back on your feet.

God boss brotha

I was a fool for feeling that way but at the same time, I think this forum just gave me an outlet to let out what I was really considering.

I am embarrassed I posted all that now but I will leave it up for any future readers

I’m going through this right now. It’s been really hard. I was let go from a boutique advisory firm. It was toxic but I have hope that things will be better. I have hope that I’ll land another offer and that I’ll be in a better place earning more than I did before and better than where I was before. Hope is what you need. Whether it happens or not hope keeps me going.
