FT rerecruiting for regional office

Hi

I am a T10 MBA Male Candidate with a SA offer from a highly respectable niche boutique bank focussed on one of the growing sectors. Want to recruit FT for SF now due to change in personal circumstances. How do I go ahead. Should I wait till my internship starts.

I haven't networked in SF region yet and do not have a tech background prior to MBA but I want to focus on EBs primarily.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's a plan of action for your situation:

  1. Start Networking Now: Don't wait until your internship starts. Begin reaching out to alumni from your MBA program, professionals in the SF area, and anyone within your target firms. Use LinkedIn, your school's alumni database, and any other networking resources at your disposal.

  2. Leverage Your Current Offer: Having an offer from a niche boutique bank is a strong starting point. It shows you have the skills and have passed a rigorous selection process. Use this to your advantage when speaking with potential connections.

  3. Focus on Transferable Skills: Even without a tech background, emphasize the skills you've gained during your MBA and any relevant experience that could be applicable to the roles you're targeting.

  4. Research and Target: Make a list of the EBs (elite boutiques) in SF that align with your interests and sector focus. Understand their deals, culture, and any recent news that could be a talking point in networking conversations.

  5. Prepare Your Pitch: Be ready to explain why you're shifting focus to SF and why you're interested in EBs specifically. Personal circumstances can be a valid reason, but also try to align your motivations with professional goals and how they fit with the SF market.

  6. Utilize School Resources: Your MBA program likely has career services and networking events. Attend these and specifically look for connections to SF and the banking sector.

  7. Plan Trips to SF: If possible, plan a visit to SF to meet with connections in person. Face-to-face networking can be very effective.

  8. Prepare for Interviews: Brush up on technical skills, understand the SF market, and be ready to discuss why you're a good fit for the roles you're targeting.

Remember, the key is to be proactive and start as soon as possible. Good luck with your full-time recruiting efforts!
