only seen a few instances of this, but many times the writing is on the wall so MDs want out anyways (e.g. CS tech)

in some other situations a big incentive is getting your vesting stock cashed out immediately as lots of BBs have comp tied to company equity – know a group head that got poached (albeit by an elite boutique) because his BB stock was paid out and got a more lucrative package all-in

Follow up not to hijack but what happens when they are duds? What is avg guarantee? 2 years? We’ve been hiring a lot of senior bankers all with solid CVs and some have been a flop and are just diluting the bonus pool at this point.

What happens if they are duds? My firm was on a hiring spree and some of them are really not doing well…how long does it take for them to get the axe typically?

Sometimes low ranking banks or bottom top 10 in league tables go all out to offer MDs at say the top 5 spots with a deal. So it could be ofc cash, equity plus bring their own team etc. I also think it depends on the bank culture and if the MDs are not moving up in the org or they are fed up or they love the bank and no chance they leave.

I know there is a quiet period when they leave the firm and some limitations on prior client contact etc.
