How really frequent are the 120hrs/a week?
Just posting this as a cop out because I'm too awkward to talk to people yet. I spent last year in ER, small shop. Hours didn't bother me. Now in a target postgraduate school and everyone is pushing me for IB. It's the hours that made it repelling, also I was in a non target. If there is enough symmetry to begin with, please do tell me
Are they too frequent?
I worked in MM IBD in NYC this summer and I honestly never had to work >120 hrs/wk.
Had a week that was around ~120 hrs max during closing, but I normally saw 80-100 hrs consistently.
Obviously depends where you work though, I’m sure 120 hrs can be a little more normal for some people on this forum lol.
120 hours/week is insane - You might get that one time in your analyst stint if you’re on multiple deals and pitches that all blow up at once and all deadlines are actually ASAP.
For whatever reason people tend to inflate their hours. Depending on your bank 70-80 will likely be the average with busy periods reaching 90-100+ - but unlikely close to 120
I've hit 120 twice in my first year
never, max I hit was ~105
