Funny we want the opposite, I'm in Toronto at a Rx consulting firm and want to move to London to join IB. Unfortunately I'm no longer eligible for the youth visa, so instead I have to get a Tier 2 Visa via company sponsor. Really makes things more difficult.

I don't see why you couldn't obtain what you're looking for, but you need to understand the visa requirements first.

I am assuming you are not Canadian. Otherwise, you would know that buy-side firms are very interested in Canadian in NYC / London doing a homecoming and that Onex is the only Canadian firm closely resembling a MF. For a non-Canadian, there's a few issues. One, the Canadian PE market is very local and you'd have zero local knowledge or experience. Second, even though sponsoring is quite simple, Canadian firms don't tend to sponsor for visas. Third, why Canada? You are looking at a significant pay cut (only a handful of PE pay better than banking) on top of really high taxes and a high COL.

I am just curious how receptive the top PE shops in Toronto are to hiring from London IB or if their preference is mainly to recruit from the Big 5 with local experience over London IB.

As I said, it really depends about your ties to Canada. All else being equal, Canadians who do IB / PE in top markets (ie. NYC / London) are generally viewed as the most attractive candidates as the experience gained in those markets is generally viewed more favorably than Canadian experience. That being said, Canada is a small and very local market and it's going to be very difficult to convince people if you have never lived in Canada.

I have Canadian citizenship and in London I have to speak 2+ languages for a London megafund so that's why I want to come back. I did high school in Canada.
