London minimum grades required

Hey guys,

I'm wondering what is the minimum GPA for London summer positions in IBD.

I know its a 2:1 but if you come from a country where your GPA is represented in another way (0-10), what would the cut off be? I mean, 7.5 is supposed to be the equivalent to 2:1, but it just seems like a 7.5/10 is not a lot.

Thanks!

As with all these things, a 2:1 (or 7.5, etc) is the minimal cut off for consideration - it by no means guarantees an offer. Of course, it's also implicit that said 2:1 is from a decent uni and part of a sufficiently rigorous degree (narrowing the field for contention further). All the 2:1 really does is provide HR - who filter the applications coming in - with an easy metric to determine who has the base-level intellectual capital for the role. Beyond that, you've got to dazzle in interview and convey genuine enthusiasm.

I'm not entirely sure which country's 10-tier attainment scale you're using, however the general rule of thumb for UK-to-US is that a 1st = 4.0 and a 2:1 = 3.7

Thanks for the reply. I'm just wondering what the minimal cut off for consideration is. I understand that there are other things like work experience and extracurriculars involved.

There is not much information about what the cut off for consideration is for other grade systems like the 10 point scale system, the one used in Spain. It would be great if somebody had some information on the matter.

Generally speaking, while extracurriculars provide good padding to a CV, most firms are absolute about minimal grades - if you don't make them, there's a very high chance you'll get filtered out immediately.

As you're looking at summer positions, I assume you haven't received your final grade yet? It's more than acceptable to put your "expected result" (rather than your current score) and to ensure it meets any bank's requirement.

A brief Google came up with this site from Brighton Uni: https://www.brighton.ac.uk/international/study-with-us/your-country-inf…

For your profile, I'd suggest an 8+ overall.

Yeah, I'm aiming for 8+. Hopefully that and two investment banking internships in regional boutiques will get me an interview. Also I've been doing those internships while studying in my sophomore year, so hopefully they don't **** me because of my grades.

Thanks for your messages man, you've been very helpful!
