MS in Finance or Accounting or MS CS?

Hello WSO,

Long time lurker here. We are headed to a possible recession soon. I am doing a CS program at a nontarget, and was headed to Quant/MAANG type roles, but considering that finance is something I enjoy reading on, I wanted to ask some thoughts.

I’m in San Diego, and plan to stay here until otherwise. We have MAANG companies here and I have direct connections to PIMCO and some banks/funds in the area.

What are your thoughts on MS CS at Georgia Tech (online) vs MS Finance or MSA programs at USD?

The other option is the dreaded tier of Big Law, which I know I would fit in just fine. I have a background in financial operations.

Wouldn’t CS/Tech get affected by the market downturn? Or tech will always remain strong?

My program is online, and Georgia Tech does accept grads from the school I’m at. However, I am with discussions with SDSU/UCSD about transfer to complete. I want to prep better as a candidate going into their program.

It’ll eat away 1-2 extra years of employment but I’m looking at long term view.

I remember reading about this too.  I did subscribe to QuantNet forums.  A Computer Science along with another major (Stats or Pure Math) will do well if I wanted to head towards the Quant side.
