Research Associate to IB?
Hey all. I was offered a job as a research associate at Gerson Lehrman Group in their technology, Media and telecommunications group. I am very interested in IB, however I came from a non-targeted school and was unsuccessful in the recruiting thus far. Is it possible to transfer into IB after a year in the aforementioned position (transfer in as an entry-level analyst position of course)? Should I simply try to crack into IB at the MBA level instead? thanks for your input, and hold no punches!
just want to know what my options are and if this is a decent job to take.
Simple answer....yes
Will it be easy....no
Thanks bj4224. Any other input or advice? Is this a worthwhile job to take?
your odds will be poor unless you develop some sort of connection in IB higher up (at least VP level) and/or can demonstrate that you love to model for fun in your free time.
In my opinion the great thing about any job at an investment bank is no matter what you are getting a great education. I think you landed an excellent job. You should give it your best shot and see where it takes you.
Go for it,
Something is better than nothing (as you mentioned that you haven't had much successs so far).
Also, you'll learn a lot as well one year into this job. Right now, you have an image of IB as the best career for you. In the Research Assoc. Position, not only will you be learning more about the industries of your focus, but you'll also learn what is a good job/bad job, what to target next.......
Thanks for the tips guys. Anyone else have any input on the matter?
