Tuck Bridge or data science internship for soph. summer?

I got into Tuck Bridge (month-long accounting/finance/modeling/business boot camp at Dartmouth - usually at Dartmouth but virtual this Summer), which I thought would be great as an Econ major without any finance classes. Figured I could network my way into something relevant for IB for a July-Aug role (Tuck runs through June) but haven't really gotten anywhere with that yet.

Just got into this program that's data science boot camp that places you into internships. Yet to see where I'll be placed, which is definitely going to be the main factor in my decision to stay with the program or go to Tuck. Unsure yet of the reputation of companies they work with. The main point is the dates overlap and I can't do both.

Data science interests me and I've enjoyed my exposure so far through courses but much more interested in gaining exposure to IB/investing. Is finding a 2-month July-Aug internship at a boutique after Tuck realistic, or if I get placed into a solid internship with the data science program should I give up Dartmouth? I'm thinking about minoring in data science anyway.

Coming from a target public, non b-school (UCB/UMich/UVA) Econ major without any finance experience.

I go to Brown, not Dartmouth. My older brother does though. Go with data-science. Skills & experience will be much more well-regarded.

Dartmouth's MBA, and UG program are highly respected. Maybe less-so when compared to HSW, but compared to 99% of other school's, they are phenomenal.

With that being said, Tuck bridge is not super well respected. Reason being many non-targets with no prior impressive experience land these internships. So, the value of the bridge program is diluted.

DS skills will carry well wherever you go.

Thanks appreciate the advice. From what I found on Linkedin it looked like Tuck placed pretty well into IB, but could just be that those kids were getting there anyway. There was a cluster of total non-targets as well.

Chances you get an internship in IB for July and august is very slim - unless you know someone who could get you in somewhere it’s not gonna happen unfortunately.

If you get placed in a good data science internship or even just any internship if you think you’d enjoy it and it would be good to do then by all means do it, you said you enjoy data science and will minor in it so you should definitely take the Internship if it’s something that really interests you. Having Internship experience is really important for your resume and helps to differentiate yourself. The world is only going to need more and more data scientists.

This site seems to love the idea that networking can get you anywhere, combined with the fact that there are a ton of small boutiques all over the place. Is your point the timing, or just the idea of getting in at a small boutique in general?
