“Following up” is a cope if you haven’t heard back from an interview

I’ve realized through this gruesome and competitive recruiting process that following up is pointless. Yes, it is nice to send a nice thank you email after the interview, but following up after some time won’t do a damn thing. When a firm wants you, often times they’ll send you an offer letter within the first day or next three days following the interview. At times, 5-7 days maximum but even then from personal experience and form colleagues it’s a little long. Firms don’t mess around with people they truly want, as they’ll give them an offer on the spot. So when you follow up and you hear the same old,”We’re still in our process well reach out to you” it’s a no because they’re waiting to see if the person they really want is going to take the offer, but even they don’t you’re their back up and you don’t know who is ahead of you.

TL; DR if you’re thinking of “following up” on your candidacy after a week or so of not hearing back just don’t. You weren’t their choice and move on. Nowadays they just ghost versus giving you a proper rejection, which is why at times you hear a rejection months after interviewing for jobs you forgot about. So save your energy and use that towards the grind. If they wanted you, they wouldn’t risk losing you!

I also want to mention that I have never gotten an offer after hearing "we're still in our process, we'll get back to you!" after following up. As a matter of fact the jobs I got offers from I never even bothered to send a thank you email.
