Freshman at UC Berkeley ending semester with a 3.3 GPA

I just finished my first semester at UC Berkeley and ended up with a 3.3 GPA - mainly because I was a part of two business clubs and didn't expect college to be as hard as it was. I am a student in L&S and intended to declare Econ or apply for Haas. I was wondering whether this is going to negatively impact my chances for Haas or getting an internship.

Can’t speak to Haas but I can speak to landing internships. I ended first sem with a straight 3.0 for the same reasons. I picked myself back up, loaded up on credits, and got a 4.0 the next sem. I worked as hard as humanly possible and stayed on top of my shit the entire semester, more than I needed. By the end of freshman year, I had close to a 3.6. I didn’t try as hard soph year but by the time I recruited I had ~3.75 and nobody cared that it wasn’t the 3.95/4.0 that some of my peers had. I got plenty of interviews (though I probably had to network more than some of my peers) and landed at an EB.

Just grind for the next 2 semesters at least and make sure that’s there’s absolutely no chance you get anything short of perfect grades. Make sure there’s no chance you get fucked by a curve. And I’m sure Haas admissions will notice it if you pick yourself up majorly after first sem. You’ve got this buddy.

Stick to that plan (actually stick to it 100%), and you’ll be just fine.
