Getting into Charlotte/Atlanta IB as a Northerner
Rising sophomore here from the north at a top southern school (think Emory, UVA, Vandy, Rice) looking to get into IB. Unlike a lot of my peers I really do not like NYC and do not want to live there in my early years and would prefer to live in the south. Being the banking capital of the south, I would really want to do my SA / Analyst years (at least) in Charlotte, but would also consider Atlanta. Would not coming from a top NC school like Duke or UNC hurt my chances since I technically have "no connection" to the city? Most of my school's alumni in IB are either in NYC or Houston, two places I really don't want to live. Should I just bite the bullet and follow the path of living in NYC for a few years?
I know people who comes from other countries landing offers in cities like Charlotte & Minneapolis. Have a good why story is all you need.
Look at the right firms, I think these include BofA and Truist. Both have substantial Charlotte presences, big enough to take non-locals. I’m sure your school has alumni there as well.
