Going from Buyside to Sellside with no past IB Experience?
I'm a second year associate doing TMT investing at a PE firm (mix of buyout and growth deals). I have some concerns about the longterm viability of the fund and our strategy and have been exploring exit opportunities. Obviously another firm like mine is always an option, though I don't have much interest in getting an MBA and laterals that won't kick me out are tough to find.
While my role has been about 60-40 between execution and sourcing, I've shown a strong aptitude for the latter and think my skillset would translate well to senior levels of banking. I did consulting, not IB, out of undergrad so was curious if 1) I've lost my sanity to be thinking of this, and if 2) I could get in as an As2 or As3 given my transaction experience at my current firm?
