How important is bank/firm prestige in the long run? Will my life really be that different?

Rising junior recruiting for summer 2023 IB roles. Have some friends who will be going to "top BBs". I myself am still recruiting and am hoping to hear back from a MM Superday. Prestige of your firm is talked about 24/7 on here. I understand it matters for exit ops but will my career/earnings really change that drastically? Is it as if I go to a MM compared to a BB that I'm now screwed for PE recruiting and therefore I'm screwed for post PE opps? Or in the end are we all gonna make similar career earnings and have similar lifestyles? Not trying to make this a “cope” post, genuinely curious on long term outcome.
