Is he outta luck?

A friend of mine interviewed with Citi last week wednesday for the IB summer analyst position and was told they'll get back to him on Friday. It's monday now and he hasn't heard from them.

I have heard people saying they got "the call" the same day or the day after. Is he outta luck? Could HR just have forgotten to get back to him? How long should he wait before contacting them again?

Did the people who heard back get offers? Then, it's likely that "your friend" is rejected. If some people heard yes and other people heard no, then it's likely that your friend is waitlisted.

For Citi it's most likely rejection. They give out lots of offers expecting only some to take it; they don't need to fill vacant spots because they factored in that people would take other shops over them in the first place.

Here's what I'd tell your friend...

They haven't gotten back to you, you worked hard and did all you can. Work on landing other interviews in the meantime, and just drop a reminder. If you get a call back, awesome. If not, keep your head up and move along.

PLEASE DONT CHANGE EXCEL SHORTCUTS!!!

I'm in a similar position, except I had my final round interview on Friday and haven't heard back yet. I'm still hopeful but am moving along with other interviews in the meantime.

I'm on same boat. (albeit not Citi)

I bet it's just an waitlist. It's been 1.5wk overdue for me, but still no rejection emails. So I'm just relaxing and waiting.

The first few days I was supposed to hear back, I was literally holding my phone 24/7. Now I couldn't give a damn and go chill out.
