Moving from single-asset to multi-asset roles

Hi monkeys,

Assuming a solid background (Tier 1 IB and RE internships, target uni), how feasible is it to move from a full-time analyst role at a fund focused only on one asset class (e.g. Valor, which does logistics) to the acquisitions team of a large-cap fund such as STWD/KKR, which transact across multiple asset classes?

Would appreciate any advice - thanks!

 

I think it’s pretty feasible. If you work at one of those large platforms, there’s generally going to be a theme in terms of where you invest. I work at a property type agnostic firm, but we look primarily at multifamily, condos and hospitality. If all you ever did was multifamily, you’d be a great fit at my firm.

same could be true at other firms that do lots of industrial
