SERIES 79 HELP

Hi all,

Got my S79 scheduled in a week and extremely nervous. I am scoring 60-70% on KM despite studying. I also heard that the exam was a lot harder than KM. Additionally, heard that they use different terms and people get lost what are they referring too.

is it really that bad?

i passed sie/63 in like 10 minutes, but with this one I feel not even 10 hours will help me

As someone who was never good at studying over the long term and was much better at cramming here are my steps on passing the series 79.  (I passed mine with 4 days of studying and I never took a "practice exam")

Steps to passing:

1. Go to this link: https://www.finra.org/sites/default/files/Series_79_Content_Outline.pdf

(if that doesn't work google Series 79 content outline)

2. Print out the outline and go line by line and make sure you know every line.

( I believe there is something like 150 items)

3. Review notes again, until its seared into your brain

4. Go take test

Other way around. Exam is easier than KM.

You'll be fine. Study, keep studying. Go chapter by chapter, don't listen to the "only look at the videos" BS. Look at the chapter's you're worst at. Good luck!

Half the people say it was easier and half harder I have no idea what to expect

Truth is it depends. The exam is a bit different from knopman- the real deal places more emphasis on certain elements of the curriculum (like equity research rules, green shoe, and fairness opinions) whereas it completely ignores others (e.g. accretion dilution). If you’re better prepped for those elements the exam focuses on and underprepared for those it does not you’ll probably find it easier than knopman, whereas if you’re the other way around you’ll probably find it harder.

Me personally I thought it was easier when I took it a bit ago but most people in my analyst class thought it was harder or about the same. Point being you should definitely put in the hours and not underestimate it.
