sophomore offer

Hi! Just received an offer and looking for some advice.

I'm a sophomore at HYPSM hoping to recruit for IB. Previously I've done a few PE internships and got an SA offer for 2024 in investment management. Seems interesting ($12Bn fund invested across public equities, fixed income, alternative investments) and think I can tie into my story. But worried it isn't as good on my resume as principal investing roles (HF, PE) or maybe that it isn't as good as other opportunities that might come my way in the fall (although I do want to focus on raising my GPA for recruiting). Any thoughts?

I know you aren’t trying to come across as entitled but HYPMS isn’t a guarantee for something more “prestigious”

It seems like this is for a sophomore summer internship — most flagship bulge bracket offers are going to diversity candidates or nepotism (even at HYPMS). Focus on raising your GPA and explaining how this role will help you pursue whatever junior summer opportunity that you’re interested in.

I understand that HYPSM does not guarantee something more prestigious - I apologize if I sounded that way. There are some firms that do come for OCR so just wanted to make that clear. I did not expect to get a BB offer given non-diversity, but rather I was more curious if HF/PE would look better on my resume or if I should pursue something like IM which would allow me to tell a more complex (maybe better) "Why IB" story?

Thank you for your reply!

Personally, I think an IB internship helps strengthen a “Why IB” for junior summer but might not necessarily give the most enriching or interesting experience.

I know plenty of (non-diverse) candidates at the target I went to who majored in non-econ degrees & didn’t have a lot of finance experience before landing a great offer due to networking etc.
