Starting as Junior - Perfect Grades, Target, No Experience
Hello -
For context, I am a dual math/econ major at a lower tier Ivy, 4.0 GPA. I've been putting off all career stuff in favor of academics, and I'm starting to pay the price. My goal has always been to get into IB, but I am now a rising junior and do not have any internships or work experience directly related to finance. I am last-minute applying to opportunities for this upcoming summer, but obviously most positions have been taken quite a while ago. I could really use some advice on last-minute applications this summer as well as what I can do going forward given I have missed most of finance recruiting in sophomore winter/spring.
Thank you very much, and I would really appreciate any help you all can offer.
So Dartmouth?
Incoming IB intern here so take opinion with a grain of salt, but it is a bit late to the rat race and having 0 internships for finance is probably going to be your biggest pitfall. First thing I would do is immediately looking into getting a searchfund internship for a resume boost. You can find those online, finding the names of small shops, or through sites like searchfunder. I would also look into finding off-cycle roles(which is pretty hard). For your junior year internship obviously still try for IB, but you might have to settle. You could look into consulting or capital markets roles in the summer/fall as a lot of those open up especially at a big 4 firm which I'm sure they would love an Ivy student with a 4.0 at. Using that you could rerecruit for Full-time IB position
Start looking for off cycle interns and local boutiques
