Struggling in life right now

Hello, I am currently deciding whether to pursue an online MBA at Indiana University or Penn State for finance. I will be working full time while I do my MBA since my company is paying for it. I want to switch careers into IB after (or during) the 2 year program. I am currently a Financial Analyst 2 at a fortune 50 company. Please let me know if you have any advice for my situation. Thank you!

Directly switching after an online MBA is practically impossible! Unless you have good connects in a very regional boutique…

Best idea, try to switch internally to the corp dev teams, network with the bankers and see if you can

Would a boutique not like seeing someone applying for at least an analyst role with at least 2 years of experience and an MBA?

If you want a shot at an IB job that isn’t LMM you aren’t going to be competitive unless you go to a top 15 MBA. The only part time programs that are allowed to recruit for IBD are Berkeley and Kellogg. If you are sure IB is your goal do not do this online MBA, focus on getting good GRE/GMAT, and having enough strong work experience to get into a top program.

Indiana University is the #1 online MBA finance program in the world if that changes anything, but I get what your saying. University of Michigan has an online MBA, do you think that’s worth it? I’d have to wait a couple months before they open their applications but I could attend there. The degree I get would be the same as in person and the recruiters wouldn’t know I did it online unless I told them. I don’t think going back to school for two years in person is in the cards for me especially because my company is paying for it. I would be fine starting out at a LMM boutique.

Online MBA programs will not facilitate an IB career transition. You want to go to a full time MBA program and go through the on campus recruiting process. Many online and part-time MBA programs are NOT eligible for these processes (the schools want people to attend the full time program).

IB associate recruiting is almost entirely from top 10 MBA or JD programs. I understand getting an MBA for free is an attractive proposition. Your company wants to upskill you and have you come back with a better skill set, education, and credentials for a longer term career.

If you want to go to banking Indiana online MBA is tough. I'm not saying it's impossible but it's a real uphill climb. Your best bet is thru a full time program at a Columbia, NYU, Booth, Kellogg, Wharton, etc
