Summer Internships with No IB Spring weeks

Does anyone have any advice for the Summer Internship 2023 cycle for someone who didn't secure any IB spring weeks (didn't really know about them till too late, did manage to get a spring insight but wasn't in IB). Already planning on spending the summer getting technicals spot on, cover letter etc. I tried the first-year summer internship route but they seem to want people based in London (well seemingly from the ones I applied to). Looking on Linkedin makes you think every person under the sun got a spring week and that you've got no chance of getting a SA offer if you didn't get one. Definitely come August time when they open I'll apply as early as possible as that was my biggest downfall with springs.

Thanks

- People will only share their successes - don't let LinkedIn bother you

- Plenty of informal opportunities out there over the summer, in whatever location suits you --> might be a good way to show interest in finance (https://studylib.net/doc/25699293/speculative-summer-internship-guide-1…)

- Majority of people from my BB LDN IBD SA class were not from the SW, albeit lots would have recruited for other firms and accepted elsewhere between conversion time and SA season

- Shoot for society positions

You've got this :)

Don't prep technicals, no one in London asks them really. Focus on your story.

Market awareness is way more important than pure technicals in London. In terms of spring weeks, I got two offers recruiting from a completely non target uni and no spring weeks. SEO London, Rare recruitment and the likes are really helpful to get you in front of relevant people in the industry.

Disclaimer: non diversity candidate

Not true, I was asked technicals in all my processes. They were simple, but not something I would’ve known without prep

Was in the same boat as you coming from a state school with no family/friends in finance.

My 2 cents

  • focus on networking and pushing really hard for 5 opportunities. With a lack of spring weeks you need another differentiator and standing out in your chosen spots by being more proactive than the next guy will help.
  • attempt to land other opportunities to enhance you CV. Many firms in all sectors do summer internships for 1st years which would help your CV greatly.
  • cast a wide net. Apply for roles of differing calibre and interest to you because most people end up doing something they didn’t think they would and love it. Also, increasing your chance of having something for FT recruiting if 2023 recruiting doesn’t go well.

Cheers and best of luck

You can apply for springs again FYI. You'd just have to do a year abroad or a masters

I didn’t get springs first year and then reapplied to them 2nd year. 2nd time I was more prepared and got an offer for an American BB that I converted for summer.
