Background: MBA finance from non target school at Boston (close to financial district). Indian on F1 student's Visa. 5 years of work experience in financial service companies from India. NO internship so far. In process of the internship hunt since Dec 2013 beginning. Age 28 Networked heavily on LinkedIn. Major responses were: "No Visa sponsorship, no target school, don't recruit MBAs" etc - so NO Internship. What are the ways to improve my chances to get an IB internship? Is that ok to go for an unpaid internship for the summer?.

Sounds like you know the answers already. Consider doing all of those things you listed. Well, first, keep an eye on summer job postings as there still are, although very few, banks that look for summer interns. Doing an unpaid summer intern is a best alternative. During the full time interview process, they're not gonna ask you whether your summer internship was paid or unpaid. Having a banking summer internship can only help you. IBI can be a good resource if you haven't done banking in the past.
