Ahmaud Abery, George Floyd Killed; Hidden Racism in America

Last few weeks on the news has been about the chase down and killing of Ahmaud Arbery. Today, George Floyd was suffocating with a cop's leg on his neck while he was laying motionless, and while other cops stood by. Video is brutal and I don't understand how some conservatives are arguing he is resisting arrest.

Yeah, hidden wasn't the right word but mostly racism deniers that try to hide it. Conservative block on the Supreme Court literally ruled that Obama being elected President proves that racism doesn't exist and repealed most of the Voting Right Act. Fox News still denies it exists.

You can argue the economic pros and cons of voting Republican and think they might be better for our economic health (I’ll disagree but sure you can make some cogent points) but if you can’t tie a link between this shit and “conservative values” (i.e. racist dog whistling for decades that is now moving to just saying the quiet part out loud) you’re just being willfully ignorant.

That is completely irrelevant given literally every single person alive in that time period is dead and such a TIRED response

Go look up the southern strategy for a more near-term example that has had meaningful repercussions on today’s world.

So much this - I'm probably somewhat more fiscally conservative compared to most democrats, but after Trump I just cannot bring myself to ever vote Republican regardless of how left the Dems go.

The GOP absolutely have to reinvent themselves - I'm praying all the anti-Trump rhetoric from Romney right now is essentially to position himself as an alternative for 2024. I may not agree with him always, but atleast any differences is just based on economic policy.

You're going to be disappointed. This is the base of the Republican party that Fox News caters too. They've already denounced Romney as a fake Republican and called for his resignation. You know the party has shifted drastically when the last 3 nominees (Romney, McCain, Bush) all oppose Trump and are the only ones in the Republican Party with the spine to vote against him. Check out this clip about Romney: https://twitter.com/JasonSCampbell/status/1225256647230095360?s=20

There is no such thing as systematic racism in America. Black people need to stop complaining and playing victims and start taking more responsibility. They're just way too entitled. White people live in fear of a black person ruining their lives...

Careful bro, people here will begin to think you're serious and that you've turned a new leaf

From the US DOJ, via Wikipedia. When comparing raw percentages, note that there are about 5.5x as many white people as black people in the US.

Wikipedia:

Homicide

According to the US Department of Justice, African Americans accounted for 52.5% of all homicide offenders from 1980 to 2008, with Whites 45.3% and "Other" 2.2%. The offending rate for African Americans was almost 8 times higher than Whites, and the victim rate 6 times higher. Most homicides were intraracial, with 84% of White victims killed by Whites, and 93% of African American victims were killed by African Americans.

In 2013, African Americans accounted for 52.2% of all murder arrests, with Whites 45.3% and Asians/Native Americans 2.5%. Of the above, 21.7% were Hispanic.

Blacks account for the majority of gun homicide victims/arrestees in the US while Whites account for the vast majority of non-gun homicide victims/arrestees. Of the gun murder victims in the United States between 2007–2016, 57% were black, 40.6% white (including Hispanic), 1.35% Asian, 0.98% unknown race and 0.48% Native American.

Non-gun homicides represented about 30% of total murders in the time period. Blacks were still overrepresented although only by about 2.5x their share of the general population. Of the non-gun murder victims in the United States between 2007–2016, 61.5% were white (including Hispanic), 32.9% black, 2.29% Asian, 1.89% unknown race and 1.43% Native American.

Robbery

According to the National Crime Victimization Survey in 2002, robberies with white victims and black offenders were more than 12 times more common than vice versa.

Victim surveys

In 1978, Michael Hindelang compared data from the National Crime Victimization Survey (then known as the National Crime Survey, or NCS) to data from the Uniform Crime Reports, both from 1974. He found that NCS data generally agreed with UCR data in regards to the percent of perpetrators of rape, robbery, and assault who were black. For instance, Hindelang's analysis found that both the NCS and UCR estimated that 62% of robbery offenders were black in the United States in 1974. A 2004 National Crime Victimization Survey report which analyzed carjacking over 10 years found that carjacking victims identified 56% of offenders as black, 21% as white, and 16% as Native American or Asian.
