Management Information Systems - Question
I didn't know in which forums to put this post, sorry if it's in a wrong one. Let me know and I'll fix it if possible.
Hello! Next year I will start University, and I chose Management Information Systems (MIS) as a major. I searched online about the major to get into more detail, but the results were endless from random sites and not straight to the point. So I wanted to ask here about the major, and see what you all know about the major, its role in a business and what opportunities it might bring in the future. Any information about opportunities would be helpful.
History
I chose this major because I already studied Business related courses at school, in Lebanon we have a technical department which allowed me to have sort of a preview of General Accounting, Cost Accounting and Financial Math (There were other courses as well, such as Math (exponential, logarithm, first/second degree equations, statistics...) and Economics (the chapters look like a mix of Macro and Micro Economics, it wasn't that hardcore but just a general concept)). We also did Computer Access courses (yeah a bit old software, now it's mostly SQL. Even our teacher said that! But you know, we have to follow the official courses). And because I liked both Accounting and Computer, I chose to go with MIS.
My Current Activities
- I am learning Excel from the courses here, the shortcuts and so on. For now I'm doing the free courses.
- I am also reading some investing related books, maybe this can be considered as a hobby.
- Once a week I'm watching the interview videos mentioned in an interview post here, but I can't find the thread anymore. Should've saved it... Once I find it I'll edit this sentence.
My Past Activities
- I've done some Python courses from py4e
- I'm familiar with SQL usage because when learning Access at school I used to represent the query functions in SQL for practice, and while learning Python I learned a bit how to use the query functions and so on.
Hopefully me learning Excel from the courses would be of use in the future in my major, if not feel free to recommend me other things to look into. Because, I have 2-3months off because university starts, so I can start learning them a bit or at least I would have an idea that would assist me in some ways.
Thanks in advance to anyone that gave his/her time to give me information about the matter,
Serj
