“Israel’s national rescue service said at least 200 people were killed and 1,100 wounded, making it the deadliest attack in Israel in decades.”

It's only a matter of time before the IDF invades Gaza. They're bringing tanks for a ground war.

I think that Hamas wanted to strike now for a few reasons: 1) it's the 50-year anniversary of the Yom Kippur War, where Israel basically warded off an attack from all of the Middle East combined, 2) it's Shabbat, so Israel is off-guard, 3) Egypt's economy is becoming extremely weak, when Egyptian supplies are vital for Gaza in the face of an Israeli blockade and 4) Saudi Arabia is pursuing a tripartite agreement with the US and Israel to achieve a civil nuclear program, a US defense guarantee against Iran, more assurances on the supply of oil, and peace with Israel.

On that last point, Iran/Hezbollah feel hemmed in if Saudi Arabia gets too friendly with Israel, which would allow the US, Israel, and Saudi Arabia to pose an even bigger threat to Iran than they already do. Hamas is Sunni, but they don't want Saudi Arabia to be friends with Israel either, so they are attacking now. Saudi Arabia basically has two choices: 1) continue pursuing the tripartite peace with Israel despite an invasion of Gaza and heavy Muslim casualties, or 2) abandon Israel and maintain something closer to the status quo. So Hamas attacks now to put pressure on the Saudis to cave before they get a chance to strike a peace deal and the Egyptian economy gets even weaker.

I've said this for years. The way to bring peace is for there to be total military victory. We did not come to peace with Imperial Japan or Nazi Germany--we and our allies achieved total military victory and imposed peace on them. My hope--though I'm cautiously pessimistic--is that Israel takes this opportunity to end this conflict once and for all by totally defeating Hamas and the Palestinian Authority and deporting the "Palestinians" back to their countries of origin, such as Jordan. If they don't do this, the conflict will continue on indefinitely. Israel's victory is in America's interest because maybe we can then stop spending money over there.

Delusional take.

Israel has been nothing but a burden to the US since day 1. Time to cut it off like a needy GF.

We should cut deals with Iran/Russia directly. Not through this leech middleman.
