Rebased data / Stock Price Charts

Does anyone know the proper formula for creating rebased stock data?

For example, company A traded at $20 last year and the price has fluctuated over the past 12 months. If I wanted to compare it to another stock based on the performance in order to created a stock chart, how I would do that?

If the question is not clear, let me know and I'll describe it further.

Thanks.

If you want to rebase them to 100, you have to first set the 'opening' price to 100. To calculate the next days rebased price, take the close price for that day, divide it by the previous close, and multiply by yesterdays rebased close price.

The idea is that you calculate the movement in absolute price, and then relate it to the rebased price.

You don't have to rebase to 100, you can rebase to any number you want to (that makes sense, of course) - the process is the same.
