25 yrs old undergrad freshman getting in PE

Hello guys, I am a british korean who just got back to UK like a year ago to change my career. I am looking for as much info as I can gather to know my chances, asking for your opinions and advices.

My BG: 25 yrs old and went to univ in south korea as an engineering major, dropped out while working in a fintech company. Currently, I know it sounds retarded but doing A levels and applied for Oxford LSE Warwick Manchester and Bristol.

I am thinking about applying to other undergrads like Bocconi, SSE, or even american unis. During uni days, I will try to get interships and master Excel as much as I can since I am already a really old person to get into finance jobs, so that I could save some time and stand among crowds and offset my age.

Do you think I get a shot? I am trying to get into PE as an analyst (first option), preferably in Nordic countries or LDN or Switzerland or anywhere in the US. The second option is as traditional as it is, just a BB or EB.

Thank you for reading ugh

If you master your story-telling skills, it actually will not be as much of an issue - at least in the US.

I met a guy at a case comp networking event (Canadian target) with many IB professionals from NYC EBs attending. Was a 26 year old sophomore. Dude was an Olympic diver before so started school late.

Insecure about his age (and no medals) and just told me his story in an introverted, shy kind of way. He never got any medals but it was heck of a story. So I hyped him up to some NYC people even when he was reticent (I have great story-telling skills by the way) and he ended up getting multiple calls after the event for potential SA for junior year.

I don't know if he used it wisely or bombed it after, but he got a chance.

So, if you can frame your fintech experience, doesn't matter if you dropped out, and share what you learn, and how exciting it was and all that crap, there is a high possibility you might do very well.

From what a few bankers told me, they have to spend 80 hours a week in an office with you, so it helps even more when you are interesting and not the plain vanilla finance robot. While being a hard worker is a non-negotiable, having an interesting story is always a good bonus if framed right.

Thank you for sharing your experience, I think in general ppl find me fun and enjoy being around me as well as my experiences and story tellings yeah.. I just am trying to qualify myself as much as I can by getting into target or semi-target schs, internships, networking and tech skills.

Apperance wise I might be an asian but since I am an easygoing person with a very open minded attitudes, I guess those soft skills will be okay hopefully..

Ah, cos I've been thru  some threads and comments, and saw if someone's been working or worked in other industries, they won't get chances to start as an analyst but associate, and potential superiors aren't willing to boss around over someone older than them so XX

Came from Latin America to the UK, had to be in the country for 3 years to classify as home student and not pay international fees (worked as cleaner, warehouse operator, call centres in the meantime). Didn’t have student loans so had to work and study full-time. Graduated this year at 28, secured summer at BB (not converted) and another summer at MM PE firm and got full-time offer to start as an analyst at 29. You can do it too!

I am kinda going thru the similar process, so I can see how hard you tried and you made it! Truly admirable how strong and passionate you are. Thanks for sharing  your opinion and it truly helps for my stress and anxiety! Thank you.

In the US, not a single person has ever asked my age. I don't think age will be an issue, just make your story kickass and make it clear why this industry is for you (probably easy with Fintech BG), but you have to make it clear why you are a good fit for the industry and what drives you to it besides the money.
