Going back to an offer you declined?

Has anyone ever gone back to a firm where they declined an offer from? Long story short - I had 2 offers a year ago and chose one for location reason (to be with SO).

Since then the relationship ended and now I also want to change strategy focus. I am now with a growth buyout shop doing LMM deals and the offer I turned down was more UMM buyout. So I also worry they will discount my experience and skillset.

How do you approach conversations like this? Any advice is appreciated!

I have not done this personally, but people I know have.
1) important to decline on a positive note, always explain that the reason was personal and not business/culture
2) keep in touch with some of the people, through work or networking events
3) reach out and explain your life has changed, you are looking into the market - inquire whether you may have a shot at interviewing again
