I read that in PE shops climbing the corporate ladder may be harder. At a Mega Fund, which is structured as a big corporation (vs. Smaller PEs) how much harder is it to make MD compared to banks like JP, GS or MS? Thanks!!

How easy is to make MD at a PE MF like Carlyle, CVC, Cinven, etc. vs at a Tier 1 Investment Bank?

At a large IB you can sleepwalk your way to director and then actually start chopping wood to make MD

At a PE you have to have your foot on the accelerator and kill it from the get go
