Interned at BB; How to Approach PE Headhunters?
Hello guys,
Recently completed an internship in IB at a top BB (think GS/JP/MS) and was fortunate enough to secure a full-time offer in M&A. As I start to think about my future and potential next steps, I'm curious about the PE recruiting process.
I'm wondering, how does one typically get contacted by headhunters for private equity opportunities? Should I proactively reach out to them? If so, any advice on the best way to go about it? Would really appreciate insights from those who've been through the process.
Thanks in advance and best wishes to all!
Are you based in London?
Yes
Copying my comment from a similar post re HHs and PE prep:
Recruiting in Europe is super random and is not structured - a lot of variables come into play such as languages. usually a HH will reach out to you and you take it from there
If you want to be proactive, best thing you can do is grab coffee with all the well known HHs for your chosen industry and make a good impression. Approach this coffee as an informal interview (very important to remember). If you make a good impression, they will have you in mind once a role pops up with their clients. Before doing this, you need to know 100% what type of firm you are going to - You cannot go in saying I am interested in HF and PE to the same HH. However, you can say different things to different HHs
All the PE interview courses are good (Peak Frameworks, WSO, WSP etc). To my knowledge, the only course which is specifically aimed at Europe is "www.breakintope.com"
Do one of these courses, practice building 3 statement LBOs from scratch in under 90 minutes with complex rev builds then a small mock IC memo on PPT, know your deals down to the wire while thinking like an investor (avoid thinking like a "banker") and you will be good to go

Great advice, thank you
