Leveraging one interview process for another
Let's say you're in a 3rd round for something like (hypothetical) Bain Capital but something like Carlyle comes up and you're more interested in doing that. Is it advisable to tell the Carlyle recruiter, hey, look, before you send my resume to these guys, just want you to know I'm in a 3rd round for Bain.
The goal is to use this as leverage to secure an interview.(e.g., if Carlyle knows I'm interviewing at Bain, maybe they are more likely to give me a first round?)
Thoughts?

Yes your progress at another shop can act as some validation and I think is a good strategy if you are more interested in the other role.
Thank you. How do recruiters prefer candidates to handle this? Just an FYI “hey btw also interviewing at...” or more so “hey I wonder if it would help me get a foot in the door if you told (firm) I’m interviewing at...”
I think the former. Recruiters are incentivized to put forward who they think the best candidates are and if a competitor has progressed a candidate then I can see how the other firm would interpret this as a positive signal.
