Modify Resume before PE interview?

Hey guys, got an intvw with a well-known PE fund soon.

So, here's the situation: I had several deals on my resume (about 8 deals - mostly LBO's) at the time someone at the fund looked at it when i was being conidered for an intvw. However, this was an older resume that I didnt update until a week or so ago.

The revised resume now shows only 6 deals (vs. 8 previously), given the two deals i left off never went anywhere significant - even though i cranked thru a bunch of crap for it and did the modeling, etc. (which is why i put it on my resume in the first place).

Do you think its OK to show up to my interview with a slightly modified resume showing only 6 deals. I'm only asking cuz its alot easier to know everything about 6 deals compared to 8 deals.

Can anyone share their thoughts? Has this happend to anyone?

Yeah, that's fine, but you likely won't accomplish your desired outcome. The person will already have your old resume in hand when (s)he sits down to interview you. Best case (s)he replaces it with the new resume. Worst case (s)he compares the two side by side and starts asking you about why they are different. If you have eight deals on your resume, you likely won't be expected to know every thing about every one of them. It's fair to claim that a couple were far less active than others. I think you're better off just interviewing based on the old resume.

Thanks for the advice but why do u say i should intvw with the old resume?

As part of my interview prep, its alot easier to know that someone is not going to ask me about it randomly when i show up with a tweaked resume.

Wouldnt it be worse if i come with the original resume and they ask me to go through the two deals I dont really want to talk about it cuz i've heard everything is "fair game"?

You're right, it would be worse to get asked about the two deals you don't really want to talk about. But my point is that the person will still have access to your old resume, so by presenting a new one, you will essentially be calling out the fact that you've removed two deals. As a result, I think you'll run the risk of INCREASING the likelihood you get asked about those deals by bringing in a new resume rather than DECREASING it.

I've actually had this very same situation happen to me as the interviewer. The guy presented a new resume to me when I went into the conference room to interview him. I ended up putting the two resumes side by side and it made me quite suspicious about what he had changed.
