Particular Extracurricular

A bit of a random one:

Recently I have become the de facto wealth manager of some close family members. They had everything in cash up until now (very low financial literacy) and I am slowly getting them to invest their savings to provide for their retirement. Nothing too spicy, just passive ETFs etc. but in effect I am the chief advisor on a decent 7 figures worth of assets.

In practice this has meant a lot of education about finance and investing, research about local tax, real estate, and pension law, and benchmarking different banks, tax advisers, and fund providers. But we are far removed from individual stock picks and the like, something my current occupation would prohibit anyway.

I really enjoy the work and feel like this will make a massive difference to people I love, but my question is the following: is it anything worth mentioning on a CV (as an extracurricular for example) or during an interview in the context of buyside recruiting?

Just wary this might have the same vibe as listing being a "personal account trader", and while the experience itself is nice it is obviously not directly relevant to a private equity position.

I haven't even broken into IB yet, but this seems like a good thing to list under extracurriculars. It shows a passion for finance and that people trust you with their money at a younger age. It sounds like something different that will stick out from other people.

Bump

Thanks for the reply above!

Another question is how to certify that? As in prove this is indeed a proper extracurricular, feels that could be delicate given it is so informal and the analyses/docs are obviously private and sensitive info that I can't share

My 2cents:

On a résumé ? Probably not. That’d fit for financial advisory // PWM, but can’t imagine PE recruiters would give a fuck. Plus, your résumé should be jam packed with relevant experience considering how competitive it is to break in. The type of info you’re “teaching” and the securities you’re investing in are too elementary for it to be significant. Now, if you’re managing a 7fig portfolio of RE, derivatives, or investing in PE, maybe. But from the looks, it seems like you’re just throwing daddy’s money into SPY and low risk securities (all due respect, what you’re doing is important; but that’s just what it comes across as). Also, MIGHT be cool to throw in to your pitch about why you enjoy finance DURING an interview (if you deem fit) to better elucidate your “passion” for finance
