RE; Finding IB/PE Work Experience Programmes for Pre-Uni students (UK)
Hi everyone,
I was wondering where I can go about finding firms (IB/PE/prop-shops) who will run work experience programmes for pre-uni students over the next year.
I'm looking to understand what I want to do within finance a bit better through these programmes by getting an insight for my ownself. I'm most intrigued by the PE/propshops particularly, but I know IB involves great deal of training so sets you up extremely well for other fields in finance.
My current approach was compiling a list of firms, and submitting queries/finding HR email. So far, I've only emailed some local, boutique corpfin firms - so wanted to see if there was a more efficient way to do it going foward with other companies.
There's some outdated trackers for these programmes like on thestudentladder, but they're (1) not fully up to date and (2) briefly covering banking, and not other fields like pe/trading etc...
If anyone went through this process in recent years, it would be much appreciated if you could share your approach. Any advice is equally welcomed too.
Thank you!

Hope that helps.

1. Investment bankers don't go to work at prop shops. That's not a thing, different areas of finance completely.
2. PE firms won't run pre-uni experiences generally. Most PE firms barely run experiences during uni.
3. Most of the large investment banks have pre-uni programs however they're often focused on diversity (ethnic minority/female/low socioeconomic bg). I also have found that they're fairly badly advertised and often actually targeted at certain sixth forms or even geographic areas.
This is referring to structured/planned pre-uni experiences. Obviously, if you're so lucky, you could get someone to give you some work exp, but the likelihood of that happening (straight into IB/PE) pre-uni is almost 0% unless you have a very strong connection somewhere.
Hi,
Sorry for my response time. I'm aware of your first point, I ought to've worded it better - I meant I was also interested in prop shop work xp (given I'm interested in programming also), among IB/PE which don't notoriously utilise programming (to my knowledge it's more relevant for tech analyst/SWE-esque roles).
As for your 3rd point, would you be aware of any firms (either off your head or a resource) apart from the below comment by Ethan (which is super useful, so thanks for this)
Thankyou!
I would just advise doing some research into the largest investment banks. If you're meant to find it, it'll be on their website.
