Are REPE firms hiring lateral acquisitions associate right now?
I'm 2.5 years into an associate role at a large global investment manager in the RE group in NY. I have 2 years of REIB prior to this role.
I've been looking to leave for about 3 months now. I've interviewed at 3 or 4 places, but nothing has materialized (one place I interviewed at put their search on hold to sort out some internal issues). I've spoken with god-knows-how-many recruiters, but the vast majority haven't been helpful.
That said, I'm worried that places aren't hiring and that I'm going to have to ride out another bonus cycle at my currently firm (May).
So- are places hiring? Or has hiring slowed given where we are in the cycle? Any insight, WSO?
Have heard acquisition positions in general have seen a slow down as it's getting hard to place capital. Asset Management positions on the other hand have apparently kept hiring.
Why are you leaving? Seems like you have a good gig?
There's still some people looking around for qualified young guys... but it's not boom times. Market looking a bit highly priced and so forth. Just wondering -- if you've already been 2.5 year associate, why not stay another year or whatever and get moved up to VP at your current shop? Is that not a possibility in your current program? If it is then you should strongly consider it because the less years you're an associate the better, from both a comp and experience perspective.
