Books for incoming REPE Analyst
Just accepted a REPE offer, and was wondering where would be a good starting place to learn more about the industry / valuation methods ahead of time. I haven’t gone through the advanced portions of the guides yet and plan on doing that.
thanks!
A.CRE is a great online resource. Book-wise...
Textbooks:
1. Real Estate Finance & Investments: Risks & Opportunities (Linneman) - Easy read and more conversational, not very technical but good to get a core understanding of real estate.
2. Commercial Real Estate Analysis & Investments (Geltner & Miller) - Advanced read and more of a true textbook, very technical. This is good if you already have a strong foundation in finance.
Books - these are more generally focused on CRE and not as specifically on the finance side, they cover a broad range of subjects but are all great reads:
1. The Real Estate Game - a lot of people call this the bible.
2. Confessions of a CRE Entrepreneur
3. Making it in Real Estate
4. The Death & Life of American Cities
Threw some Jane Jacobs in there i see - I like it
Yeah I think a lot of people on here overlook the importance of planning, spacemaking and the greater scope of cities when they're discussing real estate. I don't necessarily agree with all of her views but that book is a crazy important read for anyone in the industry IMO.
Curious what guides are you referencing for specifically real estate? I know there are guides for IB, didn't think there were any for real estate.
